Mila Gvardiol’s 48th solo exhibition brings together works from the series Architectural Variations and Interactions, tracing the development of her research from the architecture of New Belgrade to movement and relationships between geometric forms.
The calm, isolated forms of Architectural Variations evolve in Interactions, where they move, overlap, and enter into new spatial relationships.

Mila Gvardiol’s 47th solo exhibition, entitled Interactions, opened at Meander Gallery in Apatin. This marks her second exhibition at the gallery, presenting recent works from the series of the same name. Through a distinctive abstract-geometric visual language, the series explores relationships between geometric forms, space and light. The exhibition was officially opened by art historian and curator Lukica Lukić. The show features nine large-format paintings and one digital print from the Interactions series.

Mila Gvardiol’s 45th solo exhibition, Interactions, opened at the Bridges of the Balkans Gallery in Kragujevac. This was her fourth presentation in the city and her second exhibition at the gallery. The exhibition was officially opened by gallery curator Nenad Ristović and the artist. The show featured a selection of seven acrylic-on-canvas works measuring 110 × 140 cm, along with one work measuring 70 × 100 cm..

The international virtual exhibition Inaugural Exhibition: Abstract & Minimal Art 2026, organised by Sikora Arts, brought together 78 artists from around the world and featured more than 100 works of contemporary abstract and minimalist art. The exhibition was presented across five floors of a virtual gallery. Mila Gvardiol participated with two paintings from her current Interactions series, displayed on the Grand Floor.

The annual exhibition of the Association of Fine Artists of Serbia (ULUS), entitled 4 SEGMENTS, opened at the Cvijeta Zuzorić Art Pavilion, bringing together works from all four sections of the association. The exhibition offers an overview of contemporary artistic practices through four distinct segments, allowing each section to present its own selection of works. The Painting Section features 67 works, Expanded Media 20, Graphic Arts 30, and Sculpture 28. Mila Gvardiol participated with a work from her current Interactions series.

The Association of Fine Artists of Serbia (ULUS) presented its 88th Autumn Exhibition, Reconstruction of Identity, at the Cvijeta Zuzorić Art Pavilion in Belgrade. The exhibition explored the relationship between individual and collective identity and contemporary social change. Mila Gvardiol was among the 53 selected artists, presenting paintings from her new Interactions series.

Mila Gvardiol was selected as one of the winners of the Challenge 2024 competition and became part of NNC Gallery’s Collective 24 programme. The programme brings together 20 artists from around the world and provides international exposure through exhibitions, publications and online platforms. It also includes the publication of a magazine dedicated to the Collective 24 artists, as well as individual exhibition pages on the gallery’s website.

The 57th ULUPUDS May Exhibition, entitled The Most Beautiful in the Present, presented a representative overview of contemporary Serbian applied arts. Mila Gvardiol’s 43rd solo exhibition, Interactions, opened at Salon 77 of the Gallery of Contemporary Fine Arts Niš on 15 April 2025. This marked her third presentation at the institution and her second at Salon 77. The exhibition was officially opened by art historian Milica Todorović and featured nine acrylic-on-canvas paintings from the Interactions series.

A charity exhibition was held at the ULUS Gallery in support of artist Sonja Kostić. Fellow artists and members of the association donated their works to support their colleague, a single mother and independent artist facing a serious illness. The exhibition was organised as a public auction, with all proceeds from the sale of artworks donated towards Sonja’s medical treatment.

Works by Mila Gvardiol from the Crossroads and Quo Vadis? series were selected for both the print and online editions of the Light Pulse catalogue. Among 34 international artists selected by the curators, six received special recognition, with Mila Gvardiol receiving the Best in Show Grand Prize. The awarded artists also received critical reviews, and their works were featured in individual presentations.

Mila Gvardiol’s solo exhibition Architectural Variations opened at the Milorad Bata Mihailović Gallery in Pančevo. The series was presented by Ivana Markez Filipović, curator at the Cultural Centre of Pančevo, and Dr Miona Marta Marković, artist and art historian, while Gvardiol spoke about the inspiration and creative process behind the works. The exhibition featured 16 acrylic-on-canvas paintings, predominantly triptychs and polyptychs. The catalogue foreword was written by Dr Miona Marta Marković.

The 50th edition of the International Vlasina Art Colony was held in Vlasina Rid. Curator Nina Todorović invited artists from Serbia, the United Kingdom and Germany working across a range of artistic disciplines, including painting, photography and performance. As part of the French printmaking festival Fête de l’estampe 2023, the Printmaking Section of ULUS organized the group exhibition Format grafika 2023, dedicated to small-format prints. The festival is organized by the French printmakers’ association Manifestampe – Fédération nationale de l’estampe. The exhibition brought together 99 artists from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro, presenting more than 300 works in a variety of printmaking techniques. Mila Gvardiol participated with digital prints from her Geometric Variations series.

Mila Gvardiol’s solo exhibition Architectural Variations opened at the Contemporary City Gallery of the Cultural Centre in Aranđelovac, marking her 37th solo exhibition. At the opening, curator and art historian Danijela Mladenović introduced the artist, while art historian Miona Marta Marković and Mila Gvardiol spoke about the works and the ideas behind the series. The exhibition featured eleven acrylic-on-canvas triptychs and polyptychs. The catalogue essay was written by Miona Marta Marković.

New York-based global art platform Artorful awarded Mila Gvardiol a jury-selected Top 10 distinction in the international Colors 2023 Art Competition. Her painting Through the Kaleidoscope (acrylic on canvas, 100 × 70 cm) was selected among the ten highest-ranked works. Created in 2010, the work belongs to her Stained Glass Lights series, which explores relationships between light, colour and geometric form.

The traditional seventh Miniature 7 small-format exhibition was held at the ULUPUDS Small Gallery in Belgrade. The selection jury, composed of members of the ULUPUDS Art Council and the gallery curator, selected works by 138 artists of different generations, artistic approaches and interests, all created within the prescribed 20 × 20 cm format.
The exhibition featured more than 200 works in a wide range of techniques and materials, including ceramics, textiles, wood, metal, painting, sculpture, installation, photography and assemblage, covering themes ranging from landscape and figuration to abstraction.
The ULUPUDS Art Council awarded Mila Gvardiol First Prize for a painting from her Geometric Variations series. Marija Zindović received Second Prize and Sylvia Kovjenić Third Prize, while Ivana Pražić, Stefan Todorović and Vera Parezanović received commendations.

The 6th ULUS Triennial of Expanded Media, titled Unobtainable Materials, was held at the Cvijeta Zuzorić Art Pavilion in Belgrade. In the first segment of the exhibition, dedicated to landscape and the theme of error, Mila Gvardiol presented digital prints from her Horizons (Glitch Art) series. The exhibition featured 76 works by artists from Serbia, the region, Europe and the United States.

The 54th May Exhibition was held at two locations: the Saša Marčeta Foundation – Balkan Cinema and the Belgrade City Museum. IVLA is an international organization bringing together researchers, educators, designers, media professionals and artists engaged in the study and development of visual literacy. The selection followed Gvardiol’s First Prize at IVLA’s international visual art competition the previous year.

Artists from Serbia for Glina, Petrinja and Sisak

Embassy of the Republic of Croatia, Belgrade, Serbia
The humanitarian initiative Artists from Serbia for Glina, Petrinja and Sisak was organised by Diplomacy & Commerce, in cooperation with the Croatian Business Club in Belgrade and the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Serbia, to raise funds for communities affected by the devastating earthquake in Croatia.
Mila Gvardiol contributed a painting from her Quo Vadis? series, which was sold alongside 21 other artworks and photographs by prominent Serbian artists. The campaign raised more than RSD 800,000 for humanitarian assistance to the affected areas.
A reception marking the initiative was held at the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Belgrade, attended by Ambassador Hidajet Biščević, representatives of the organisers, participating artists and members of Serbia’s cultural and business community.

At the 8th GIFEST International GIF Art Festival, held at the Abazija Cinema in Palić, Mila Gvardiol’s work Boredom received a Special Jury Commendation from the three-member international jury comprising artists from Subotica, Belgrade and Sofia.
Boredom is one of the GIF works created from the interactive video Love, produced by Mila Gvardiol in 2011. This presentation marked the work’s first appearance at an international festival, where it was recognized for its artistic quality.

Following its initial virtual presentation, the Show Must Go On exhibition was presented in the physical space of Art For All Gallery, allowing audiences to experience the works in person.
The exhibition brought together 30 artists working across different media and artistic approaches, presenting works created during the period of isolation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The project explored experiences of isolation, changes in everyday life, and the ways artistic practice responded to the circumstances of the global pandemic.
Mila Gvardiol participated with a painting from her Stairs series, exploring relationships between architecture, space and light through her distinctive geometric visual language.

Mila Gvardiol participated with two miniature paintings from the Geometric Abstractions series, Variations 1 and Variations 2, exploring relationships between form, space and rhythm through geometric composition.

As part of the programme, Mila Gvardiol presented her digital video An Image of a Perfectly Ordinary Day (2010), created as part of the ULUS Video Workshop.

Among the exhibited works was a painting by Mila Gvardiol from her Crossroads series.

The exhibition Art Today was opened at the National Bank of Serbia in Belgrade by curator and architect Slobodan Maldini, in collaboration with ULUPUDS, Art Centar Novi Sad and the Association of Serbian Architects.
The exhibition brought together works by around 200 artists working across painting, architecture, architectural, industrial and graphic design, applied painting, sculpture, ceramics, scenography, costume design, photography, contemporary media and other fields of visual and applied arts.
Mila Gvardiol was represented by two paintings from her Quo Vadis? series.

Residential Complex Sales Office, Belgrade, Serbia
Mila Gvardiol created a commissioned work for the interior of a residential complex sales office in Belgrade. The client requested a reinterpretation of Mirrors, a painting from her Repetitions series, adapted specifically to the architectural setting through changes in colour and scale.
Executed in acrylic on canvas and measuring 260 × 150 cm, the work retained the key visual qualities of the original while establishing a new relationship with the surrounding space. The commission reflects Gvardiol’s approach to integrating her geometric visual language into a specific architectural environment while preserving the identity of the original artwork.

Mila Gvardiol’s 24th solo exhibition, Crossroads, was held at the Gallery of Contemporary Art in Pančevo. The exhibition presented a selection of 13 paintings from the series of the same name, in which the artist explores relationships between space, light and architectural forms through geometric abstraction. The works, executed in acrylic on canvas, ranged in size from 100 × 70 cm to 100 × 200 cm. The exhibition was opened by the gallery curator Ivana Markez Filipović and the artist, who introduced the concept behind the Crossroads series and spoke about the inspirations and artistic explorations that shaped it.

In issue No. 36 of the literary magazine Priča, dedicated to short stories and contemporary literary work, paintings by Mila Gvardiol were featured on both the front and back covers. In this way, her work became an integral part of the publication’s visual identity, creating a connection between visual art and literature.
The front cover features a painting from the Crossroads series, while the back cover presents Moment of Eternity from the Repetitions series. Although originating from two different cycles, the works share Mila Gvardiol’s distinctive geometric visual language.

The 41st edition of the Sopoćanska viđenja Art Colony brought together seven artists from Serbia and abroad: So Hee Kim from South Korea, Rebeka Abdagić from Sarajevo, Lamija Halilagić from Žepče, Škrijelj from Novi Pazar, Vesna Petrović from Čačak, Nikola Vukosavljević and Mila Gvardiol from Belgrade.
The 2016 edition was selected by art historian and ULUS curator Olivera Vukotić. The colony brought together artists with diverse artistic approaches, providing a setting for collaborative work, exchange of ideas and the creation of new works.

The exhibition was opened by poet, essayist and art critic Dragan Jovanović Danilov, who introduced Gvardiol’s work and the conceptual framework of the series. The opening was accompanied by a musical performance by Stefan Lazarević on trumpet and Sergej Bačkov on double bass.

On the occasion of the closing of Mila Gvardiol’s solo exhibition Crossroads at the Milotić Gallery in Pula, the performance Mapping Pula Crossroads was presented. The performance was conceived and carried out by Pula-based artists Šandor Slakčić and Đurica Ciganović, with the participation of Mila Gvardiol and visitors to the exhibition.
For the event, artist Libero Kokotović contributed 101 map-based objects depicting the territory of Pula, which became part of this collaborative artistic action.

The 4th International Miniature Biennial “VoVa MiniArt 2015” brought together artists from ten countries across Europe and Africa. Dedicated to miniature art, the biennial featured works measuring 10 × 10 cm and created in a variety of artistic techniques.
Mila Gvardiol participated with a painting from her Rhythm series and received a Jury Commendation, one of four awards presented within the exhibition programme.

Organised by Atelier 313 under the patronage of the Municipality of Lopare, the 8th Majevica Art Salon brought together artists for a week of creative work, exchange of ideas and artistic dialogue in Gornji Priboj.
The participating artists included Milutin Dedić, Miladin Lukić, Dušan Mikonjić, Snežana Bekrić, Ljiljana Stojanović, Biljana Vrbić Mačak, Jelena Negovanović, Marija Aleksandrović and Mila Gvardiol.

First established in 1929, the exhibition presented works by 73 artists from different generations, reflecting a range of contemporary artistic approaches and practices. Mila Gvardiol was among the selected artists, presenting a painting from her Crossroads series.

The exhibition Belgrade – Istria presented works by around 50 artists of different generations and artistic approaches, selected by the Council of the Association of Fine Artists of Serbia (ULUS). Mila Gvardiol was among the participating artists.
Held at the Rovinj Heritage Museum, the exhibition continued the collaboration between the Belgrade and Rovinj art scenes, fostering artistic exchange and presenting contemporary Serbian art to audiences in Croatia.

The Lexicon of Contemporary Serbian Applied Arts, authored by Slobodan and Sofija Maldini, was presented at Mikser House in Belgrade. The publication offers a comprehensive overview of prominent contemporary Serbian artists working across a wide range of applied arts disciplines, including architecture, design, painting, sculpture, ceramics, textiles and fashion, scenography and costume design, photography, multimedia art and art history.

4th International Art Colony Pliva

The 4th International Art Colony Pliva was held at the sources of the Pliva River near Šipovo, bringing together artists from Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad. Surrounded by the distinctive natural landscape of the Pliva region, the participants created new works and exchanged artistic ideas and experiences throughout the ten-day programme. The participating artists included Milivoje Unković, Milan Stašević, Vesna Stašević, Ranka Lučić Janković, Mirjana Lučić, Goran Rakić, Stefan Hadži Nikolov, Leon Patchett, David Cunningham, Beti Bricelj, Miloš Đorđević, Boris Eremić, Olga Đorđević, Nevena Prijić, Nikola Grull, Vladimir Lalić and Mila Gvardiol.

Mila Gvardiol’s solo exhibition Crossroads presented works from the series of the same name. The series explores relationships between architectural forms, space and geometric structures, continuing the artist’s long-standing interest in the transformation of the urban environment into an abstract visual language.
The catalogue text was written by poet, essayist and art critic Dragan Jovanović Danilov.

The 46th May Exhibition of the Association of Applied Arts Artists and Designers of Serbia (ULUPUDS) was held at the King Peter I House in Belgrade. One of the Association’s traditional annual events, the exhibition brought together artists from its various sections, presenting a broad range of contemporary art and design practices. Mila Gvardiol was among the participating artists.
The 2014 edition also had a humanitarian dimension, with donations collected during the opening to support people affected by the severe floods in Serbia.

A charity exhibition organised by the Association of Fine Artists of Serbia (ULUS) was held at the Cvijeta Zuzorić Art Pavilion in Belgrade in response to the difficult financial situation faced by the Association. Numerous artists donated paintings, prints, drawings and sculptures for sale, with proceeds intended to support the work and activities of ULUS.
Mila Gvardiol took part in the initiative by donating her painting Summer Heat.

The traditional Spring Exhibition, one of the major annual exhibitions organised by the Association of Fine Artists of Serbia (ULUS), opened at the Cvijeta Zuzorić Art Pavilion in Belgrade. Conceived as a survey of current tendencies in the Serbian art scene, the exhibition brought together works by ULUS members as well as selected guest artists, chosen by the Artistic Council.
Mila Gvardiol participated with the painting Flow, created as a continuation of a work by artist Snežana Grozdanović.

The exhibition In Honour of Njegoš was organised to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Petar II Petrović Njegoš. Organised by the Radionica duše association, which was also celebrating its 25th anniversary, the exhibition brought together artists whose works explored Njegoš and his legacy through diverse artistic approaches. Mila Gvardiol participated in the exhibition, and her work was selected for the cover of the accompanying exhibition catalogue.

The Association of Fine Artists of Serbia (ULUS) opened a new exhibition space within the Cvijeta Zuzorić Art Pavilion in Belgrade – the Zora Petrović Gallery. The inaugural exhibition, initiated by the ULUS Programme Council, presented works by a younger generation of artists selected by curator Natalija Cerović.
The participating artists were Arion Asllani, Olja Mićić, Vladimir Lalić, Pavle Maksimović and Mila Gvardiol.

The exhibition Dr. Kilk was presented at the Gallery of Contemporary Art in Pančevo as part of the traditional New Technologies programme. Produced by Radio Television of Serbia (RTS), the TV monograph GVARDIOL – Mila Gvardiol is a documentary dedicated to the artistic practice of Mila Gvardiol. The programme presents her work, the development of her visual language and the key themes that have shaped her artistic career.
The documentary was directed by Vesko Butrić and edited by Marko Tisovec, offering viewers an insight into Gvardiol’s creative process and her work within contemporary visual art.

In Honour of Tesla

The exhibition In Honour of Tesla, featuring paintings, sculptures and graphic works, was presented at the City Gallery in Užice as part of the City Day programme. Mila Gvardiol was among the participating artists.
The exhibition formed part of a travelling art project dedicated to Nikola Tesla, organised to mark the 70th anniversary of his death. Through a variety of media and artistic approaches, the participating artists offered their interpretations of Tesla’s life, work and scientific legacy.

Mosaic at the Church of St John the Baptist

Church of St John the Baptist, Balanovac near Knjaževac, Serbia
A mosaic by Mila Gvardiol, measuring 170 × 200 cm, was installed in the lunette above the main entrance of the Church of St John the Baptist in Balanovac near Knjaževac. The composition depicts St John the Baptist, the patron saint to whom the church is dedicated.
Created as an integral part of the church’s architectural setting, the mosaic occupies a prominent position above the entrance, connecting Gvardiol’s artistic expression with the sacred character of the space.

Special ULUPUDS Award

At the annual juried exhibition Traditional–Modern, organised by the Painting and Graphic Arts Section of ULUPUDS, Mila Gvardiol received the Special Award for the painting From Concrete to Abstract.
The exhibition marked the 60th anniversary of ULUPUDS (1953–2013), and several new awards were introduced to become part of the association’s annual recognitions. Alongside Gvardiol’s Special Award, the Platinum 60 Award was presented to Tijana Đorđević, while Vera Mamuzić Trajković received the Golden 60 Award.

U Galeriji Radio-televizije Srbije u Beogradu otvorena je izložba umetničkih dela nastalih tokom 15. Likovne kolonije RTS-a, održane na Zlatiboru u maju 2012. godine. Kolonija je okupila deset umetnika različitih generacija – osam slikara i dva vajara – među kojima je bila i Mila Gvardiol.
Likovna kolonija RTS-a, osnovana 1997. godine, predstavlja projekat koji okuplja afirmisane umetnike i kroz zajednički rad i razmenu iskustava doprinosi stvaranju umetničkog fundusa Galerije RTS-a. Dela nastala tokom kolonije predstavljena su publici na zajedničkoj izložbi u Beogradu.

15th Radio Television of Serbia Art Colony

In May 2012, Mila Gvardiol participated in the 15th Art Colony organised by Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) on Zlatibor. Established in 1997, the colony brings together established artists of different generations, providing a setting for creative work, exchange and artistic dialogue.
The 15th edition brought together ten artists: Jovan Rakidžić, Javor Rašajski, Zoran Grebenarović, Blagoje Dimić, Dragan Radenović, Nikola Žigon, Jelena Kršić, Maša Đuričić-Džudžević, Nebojša Đuranović and Mila Gvardiol. Works created during the colony became part of the RTS Gallery art collection and were subsequently presented in a group exhibition in Belgrade.

ArtScape
Public Art Project
Facade of the Gallery of Contemporary Art, Pančevo, Serbia
ArtScape, a public art project initiated by the Cultural Centre of Pančevo and the weekly magazine Pančevac, presented works by contemporary artists as large-scale digital prints on the facade of the Gallery of Contemporary Art in Pančevo. Each selected artist was featured for one month, extending the gallery space into the urban environment and making contemporary art directly accessible to the public.
Mila Gvardiol’s work Disco Night was presented as part of the project, with a large-format digital print displayed on the gallery facade throughout the month.

Landscapes of the Soul

Mila Gvardiol’s solo exhibition Landscapes of the Soul presented a series of paintings created in 2011, exploring landscape as an inner state shaped by memory, emotion and personal experience. The series emerged following the death of the artist’s father, painter Goran Gvardiol. In several works, figures taken from his paintings appear as part of an intimate visual dialogue, creating a sense of continuity between two artistic practices and generations.
